Named after a local gold mining industry it is a unincorporated community
in Esmeralda County.
Join us as we #explore this mining Ghost town from the 1880s
where people still reside and even partake in festivities.
in addition, we will uncover original mining cabins,
abandoned mines, lost dreams and amazing geological phenomenon.

First settled by miners and ranchers during the 1880s,
Gold Point was originally the small camp of Lime Point.
When Tonopah and Goldfield were initially established because of their gold and silver findings
a flood of prospectors returned back to Lime Point.
1902, Silver was then discovered, and the camp was named Hornsilver.
A lack of water lead to milling complications
and because the silver was not coming in abundance the settlement was #abandonedplaces
The Great Western Mine Company in 1905 discovers a rich silver vein
which brought the miners right back to camp.
In addition to silver, gold was also mined in much smaller quantities.
by the time 1908 comes, wooden structures start to pop up and the
town was born.
Soon came a post office, businesses, chamber of commerce
and numerous saloons. the town reach a population of 1,000
with over 225 wooden structures.
Unfortunately, the mega strike of silver and gold remained a dream,
with a constant reminder of inefficient and costly milling practices
due to a railroad passing that was never built.
desperate for a score, people back then started jumping claims.
Alot of the mining properties were brought into the courts
due to these litigations.
Just a little after a year the town was established
businesses started to close and people once again moved on.
Determined, a Mining operation set up once again in 1915
it was resold in 1922 at a receiver’s sale.
5 years pass and in 1927 J.W. Dunfeehad nothing better to do and
went down the mine and you guessed it, he discovered gold.
A few years pass and more gold was being mined than silver and
the town officially changed its name to Gold Point.
At a time when most of Americans were suffering
due to the depression Gold Point was thriving.
All good things must come to an end.
When World War II began, the government ordered
all gold mines to shut down.
They were described as nonessential to the war effort.
Gold Point’s population dips again to 20 in 1940.
After World War II mining continued on a smaller scale
when in the 1960’s a mine caved in from a blast at Dunfee Shaft.
The mine then closed, it was more expensive to fix
than the quantity of ore.
Small eases and diggings have occurred since then
but that was the last serious mining operation at Gold Point.
Gold Point is a living #Ghosttown with miners dreams still present.
This #adventure brought me back to a time that was much
rougher and untamed.
I would encourage anyone who enjoys history and adventure to visit.

wild horses, burros,
Lose reception in the mountains and uncover fossils, watering holes and more.
Gold Point is here to stay.
